Sinus Surgery

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Under General Anesthesia:

Dr. Perry Santos performs endoscopic sinus surgery, in the operating room under general anesthesia, in cases that require more extensive surgery, or are considered because of age or personal preference. Stereotactic surgery may also be utilized in the operating room for complex cases to allowing greater accuracy, greater preservation of natural sinus tissue, and safety.

These cases include:
  • Pediatric age groups
  • Complex sinus disease
  • Extensive polyp removal
  • Fungal debris removal
  • Allergic fungal sinusitis
  • Hydrodebridement requirements (high pressure irrigation of the sinuses using sterile saline)
  • Complicated septoplasty surgery
  • Nasal fracture reduction procedure
  • Frontal sinus surgery
  • Frontal sinus stenosis repair with Rains Stent placement
  • Benign tumor or cancer cases
  • Eustachian tube balloon dilation for eustachian tube dysfunction

“Both of us had surgery by Dr. Santos. I had been hoarse for about a year with chronic sinus issues. And my son, Bryce, had chronic ear infections. Prior to seeing Dr. Santos, Bryce had five ear tube surgeries. We both feel like different people now. I haven’t had a single sinus infection since surgery. The surgery was a total success. Dr. Santos can calm my son with ease, and grace and true compassion. Bryce is already seeing signs of hope that his ear infections are over.”

Other procedures that we can carry out either in the office or operating room include:

Propel® stents placement

An anti-inflammatory steroid (mometasone) releasing absorbable stent, aiding in decreasing inflammation and scarring during the post-operative healing phase, typically used after extensive polyp removal.

Latera implant placement

An absorbable implant to stent open the soft tissue of the nasal crease to prevent nasal valve collapse during inspiration.

The SNOT Scale

(Sino-Nasal Outcome Test©)

The SNOT Scale is a validated statistical quality of life instrument for assessing sinus health. Each symptom category is scored from normal sinus health (0) to the worst health (5). Each of these symptoms are then added together to obtain a final score. Patients fill out the SNOT scale forms from their initial evaluation, then after medical treatment (if appropriate), then after surgical management (if indicated). We believe data drives innovation, so our team began compiling and analyzing our recorded patient “SNOT scores” from 2015 to current.

The graph below illustrates our treatment methods in progressive order and our patients’ overall average SNOT scale score after completing each one.

  • Initial Evaluation
  • AFTER MEDICAL THERAPY | 36% Improvement, compared to initial evaluation
  • After Sinus Surgery | 76% Improvement, compared to initial evaluation
  • Long Term After Sinus Surgery | 81% Improvement, compared to initial evaluation

“Jaxon has cystic fibrosis. Part of that disease process, he has a lot of chronic inflammation and develops polyps. Dr. Santos has been a lifesaver for my son; he’s funny, a Christian and so talented. He has reduced the inflammation and mucus, and removed many polyps. Jaxon felt all stuffed up in the nose, then after surgery it was all clear. We would give Santos Sinus Center 5-stars.”

What Our Patients Are Saying

“Dr. Santos is a miracle worker. I had been having trouble sleeping for quite some time. Dr. Santos quickly determined that my septum was deviated and likely the culprit. I had never had surgery of any kind before but his calming presence and demeanor eased all of my concerns. Now I am breathing and feeling better than I have in years.”
